Review: Wizardthrone “Hipercube Necrodimensions”

Cuando llega a nuestra redacción el disco de la banda Wizardthrone con la premisa de que es un grupo formado por miembros de Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Aether Realm y Nekrogoblikon, nada más escuchar los 2 primeros grupos me viene a la mente a Cristopher Bowes (teclista y compositor en las 2 primeras formaciones). Y efectivamente, él es el responsable de este nuevo periplo, trayendo vía Napalm Records su primer trabajo titulado “Hipercube Necrodimensions” que salió a la venta el 16 de Julio. Lo que más sorprende inicialmente es que el disco se mueve en una base rítmica y guitarras con voces guturales que se puede catalogar perfectamente como un death metal técnico combinado con teclados sinfónicos dando incluso retazos de black metal, esta amalgama da como resultado un disco tremendamente efectivo y que se aleja enormemente del metal pirata de Alestorm y el power metal de Gloryhammer, recordándome por momentos a bandas como Children of Bodom  o Wintersun. El disco a su vez desarrolla una temática futurista donde las guerras dimensionales y las aventuras espaciales están a la orden del día.

El disco se inicia con “Black Hole Quantum Thermodynamics”, tema rapidísimo que me recuerda a los Children of Bodom y donde los teclados aplican cierto toque tétrico y majestuoso al mismo tiempo. En “Frozen Winds ot Thyrania”  siguen la misma dinámica donde las guitarras alternan riffs rápidos con otros más melódicos  y donde la parte sinfónica recae en los teclados, en una parte del tema da una pincelada power en un juego donde se alternan las guitarras y el teclado.

“Incantation of the Red Order “ tenemos temas donde partes narrativas sustentadas por los teclados dan descanso a las partes más rápidas del tema, y en donde los teclados le da un toque épico al tema. “Forbidden Equations Deep Within the Epimethean Wasteland “ realiza una intro de guitarras melodiosa para después del grito de M. Archistrategos volvemos a ese ritmo infernal de batería tan presente en todo el disco, no obstante es el tema más sinfónico del álbum y el trabajo vocal raya a muy buen nivel como en todo el disco. “ The Coalescence of Nine Stars in the System Once Known as Markarian-231”  tema frenético con unos teclados majestuosos, algunos efectos de sintetizadores y varias partes contadas en narrativa y donde el estribillo tiene cierto toque happy, y la batería es brutal.

“Of Tesseractual Gateways and the Grand Duplicity of Xhul” es una canción con cierto toque a black metal y donde no deja descanso hasta una pausa con piano y sonido espacial de fondo, tema que me ha recordado a Wintersun, pasajes con teclados atmosféricos y pinceladas orientales. “Hypercube Necrodimensions” es el tema más corto del disco y donde la batería es más Power y las guitarras marcan el ritmo rápido con riffs frenéticos y teclados Power sinfónicos.
“Beyond the Wizardthrone (Cryptopharmalogical Revelations of the Riemann Zeta Function)” se inicia con el sonido de órgano y la lluvia de fondo para dar paso a unos teclados épicos que recuerdan en algunos momentos a Stratovarius, tema de más de 13 minutos donde los cambios de ritmo son constantes, con uso de partes narrativas y coros que nos recuerdan a Rhapsody of Fire inevitablemente, sin olvidar esa parte frenética de batería y riffs de guitarras brutales. 

Definitivamente lo que me sorprende sobremanera es el frenetismo compositivo de C. Bowes dónde en cada nueva formación da una nueva vuelta de tuerca en sus composiciones, y es que aunque en este disco no está descubriendo nada novedoso, si da como resultado un disco donde la calidad rezuma y es fácilmente escuchable tanto para un fan del Death metal melódico como para un fan del Power sinfónico. When the Wizardthrone band’s album arrives at our newsroom with the premise that it is a group made up of members of Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Aether Realm and Nekrogoblikon, as soon as I listen to the first 2 groups, Cristopher Bowes (keyboard player and composer in the first 2 formations). And indeed, he is responsible for this new journey, bringing via Napalm Records his first work entitled “Hipercube Necrodimensions” which goes on sale on July 16. What is most surprising initially is that the album moves on a rhythmic basis and guitars with guttural voices that can be perfectly cataloged as technical death metal combined with symphonic keyboards giving even scraps of black metal, this amalgamation results in a tremendously effective album. And that is far removed from the pirate metal of Alestorm and the power metal of Gloryhammer, reminding me at times of bands like Children of Bodom or Wintersun. The album in turn develops a futuristic theme where dimensional wars and space adventures are the order of the day.

The album begins with “Black Hole Quantum Thermodynamics”, a very fast track that reminds me of Children of Bodom and where the keyboards apply a certain gloomy and majestic touch at the same time. In “Frozen Winds ot Thyrania” the same dynamic follows where the guitars alternate fast riffs with other more melodic ones and where the symphonic part falls on the keyboards, in one part of the song it gives a touch of power in a game where the guitars and the guitar alternate. Keyboard.

“Incantation of the Red Order” we have songs where narrative parts supported by the keyboards give rest to the faster parts of the song, and where the keyboards give an epic touch to the theme. “Forbidden Equations Deep Within the Epimethean Wasteland” performs a melodious guitar intro and after the scream of M. Archistrategos we return to that infernal rhythm of drums so present throughout the album, however it is the most symphonic theme of the album and the vocal work It strikes at a very good level as in the entire album. “The Coalescence of Nine Stars in the System Once Known as Markarian-231” frenetic theme with majestic keyboards, some synth effects and several parts told in narrative and where the chorus has a certain happy touch, and the drums are brutal.

“Of Tesseractual Gateways and the Grand Duplicity of Xhul” is a song with a certain touch of black metal and where it leaves no rest until a pause with piano and spatial background sound, a theme that reminded me of Wintersun, passages with atmospheric keyboards and brushstrokes oriental. “Hypercube Necrodimensions” is the shortest track on the album and where the drums are more Power and the guitars set the fast pace with frenetic riffs and symphonic Power keyboards. “Beyond the Wizardthrone (Cryptopharmalogical Revelations of the Riemann Zeta Function)” begins with the sound of the organ and the rain in the background to give way to epic keyboards that sometimes recall Stratovarius, a song of more than 13 minutes where the changes rhythm are constant, with the use of narrative parts and choruses that inevitably remind us of Rhapsody of Fire, without forgetting that frantic part of drums and brutal guitar riffs.

Definitely what surprises me greatly is the compositional frenzy of C. Bowes where in each new formation he gives a new twist in his compositions, and it is that although in this album he is not discovering anything new, it does result in an album where the Quality exudes and is easily listenable to both a melodic death metal fan and a symphonic Power fan.
