[Review] Anvil golpea fuerte con su último disco “Impact Is Imminent”

Tener que presentar a los canadienses Anvil a estas alturas de la película es casi un sacrilegio. Y es que esta banda cuando inició su andadura a principio de los 80 con su obra maestra “Metal on Metal” (un servidor lo tiene en cassette), han sido una fábrica de producir LPs llegando a la friolera de 19. Y es que si hay que dar un premio a la constancia, no hay lugar a dudas, el premiado es Anvil. A pesar de sus distintos altibajos, fue con el documental “Anvil, the Story of Anvil”cuando saltaron de nuevo a la palestra. Y es que Anvil con sus 2 cofundadores, el cantante y guitarrista Steve “Lips” Kudlow y el baterista Rob Reiner han forjado un estilo propio e inamovible que se mueve entre el estilo NWOBHM con trazos de Thrash y Speed que los hacen totalmente únicos, acompañados por Chris Robertson desde 2014 que los hacen un tándem demoledor.

Tras una intro que pasa a presentar al grupo comienza con el tema “Take a Lesson”, tema potente con guitarras pesadas y bajo marcado que nos recuerda a Judas. El siguiente tema le meten una marcha más “Ghost Shadow” con riffs tenebrosos incluidos. “Another Gun Fight” me encanta por el guitarreo vacilón que se marca en el grueso del tema. “Fire Rain” tenéis un tema que nos recuerda a Accept y que demuestra la versatilidad de este grupo. “”Teabag” es un tema instrumental donde los muchachos se divierten y así lo transmiten en la canción. “Don’t Look Back” me encanta la intro de Reiner con su sempiterno cencerro, tema rockero marca de la casa. “Someone to Hate” volvemos a darle velocidad al tema quedando un tema más speed, tremendamente pegadizo y resultón para el directo. “Bad Side of Town” no baja el pedal del acelerador con una base de batería y bajo tremendamente compacta que le da una gran fuerza al tema. “Wizard’s Wand” es un tema con guitarra más pesada y donde me gusta el uso del Ride por Reiner en el estribillo, también hay que destacar un punteo a cargo de Steve guapísimo. “Lockdown” me recuerda a los Judas ochenteros con el mismo estilismo en la guitarra. “Explosive Energy” habla por sí solo el título, guitarras rock-and-roll con estribillo fulgurante y un claro guiño al metal alemán. “The Rabbit Hole” sigue la tónica del tema anterior llevándome a recordar a Grave Digger, gran tema. “Shockwave” es un tema más pesado y donde el cencerro de Rob vuelve a hacer de las suyas. “Gomez” finaliza el disco con otro tema instrumental donde las trompetas acompañan al grupo para dejar un tema muy divertido.

Definitivamente estamos ante un buen disco de Anvil donde demuestran que lo clásico no muere y que su sonido está ahí para deleitarnos. No buscamos innovación ni otro tipo de sonido. ELLOS SON ANVIL, no hay más que hablar señorías. Un saludo.

Despite their various ups and downs, it was with the documentary “Anvil, the Story of Anvil” when they jumped back into the fray. And it is that Anvil with its 2 co-founders, singer and guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Rob Reiner have forged their own immovable style that moves between the NWOBHM style with traces of Trash and Speed that make them totally unique, accompanied by Chris Robertson since 2014 that make them a devastating tandem.

After an intro that introduces the group, it begins with the song “Take a Lesson”, a powerful song with heavy guitars and a marked bass that reminds us of Judas. The next song puts a gear more “Ghost Shadow” with dark riffs included. I love “Another Gun Fight” because of the hesitant guitar playing that is marked in the bulk of the song. “Fire Rain” we have a song that reminds us of Accept and that shows the versatility of this group. “”Teabag” is an instrumental theme where the boys have fun and they transmit it in the song. “Don’t Look Back” I love Reiner’s intro with his everlasting cowbell, his trademark rock song. “Someone to Hate” we return to speed up the theme, leaving a more speedy theme, tremendously catchy and great for the live show. “Bad Side of Town” does not lower the accelerator pedal with a tremendously compact drum and bass base that gives great strength to the song. “Wizard’s Wand” is a song with a heavier guitar and where I like the use of the Ride by Reiner in the chorus, we must also highlight a plucking by Steve, who is gorgeous. “Lockdown” reminds me of the eighties Judas with the same style on the guitar. “Explosive Energy” the title speaks for itself, rock-and-roll guitars with a dazzling chorus and a clear nod to German metal. “The Rabbit Hole” follows the trend of the previous song, reminding me of Grave Digger, a great song. “Shockwave” is a heavier song and where Rob’s cowbell does his thing again. “Gomez” ends the album with another instrumental song where the trumpets accompany the group to leave a very funny song.

This is definitely a good Anvil album where they show that the classic never dies and that their sound is there to delight us. Let’s not look for innovation or another type of sound. THEY ARE ANVIL, there is nothing more to talk about, ladies and gentlemen. All the best.
