First of all, I want to admit that I was completely unaware of the adventures of this formation until I had the pleasure of seeing their brutal live show at Rock Fest Barcelona 2019, where the sound and staging were simply surprising and exceptional. Next came their new installment in the midst of a pandemic entitled “Call of the Wind, which emerged as one of the band’s best albums.
But of course, now comes the question for which the edition of this album arises, we are in the midst of a pandemic and it cannot be rotated to present said album with all the elements and paraphernalia that make Powerwolf stand out. Initially, the fact of bringing a live format to the market produced a lot of reluctance for me, but in this installment this is not the case. In “The Monumental Mass: A Cinematic Metal Event”, an album sponsored by the Napalm Records label, they bring us the spectacle of their tour home. With an exceptional sound and trying to put together a story that they divide into 3 parts, their delivery seems more like a 1 hour and 20 minute video clip than a live album. On this album they present us with up to 4 songs from their new installment, greatly highlighting the theatrical elements and props that help develop the story and that make it simply an exceptional installment.
This is definitely an album where Powerwolf manage to bring us their live show at home, with an excellent sound and a colossal staging where they don’t skimp on scenic and visual means, the only drawback of this album is the release of the CD format, because although the sound It is very good not being able to see it detracts from the quality of the delivery. All the best.
