Reseña – review: Varang Nord “Pärkiuna Uomurs”

Varang Nord es una banda de folk/pagan/viking metal de Letonia que vienen a traernos su cuarto trabajo a través de Sliptrick Records llamado “Pärkiuna Uomurs”, que salió a la venta el 23 de Febrero. Y es que esta banda desde que ganase el Wacken Battles 2019 solo hace progresar subiendo enteros en cada entrega. Las novedades que nos trae este disco es que inicialmente es cantado en Latgali (un dialecto del este de su país) y el contenido de este disco va dedicado a las batallas, sacrificios a sus Dioses y fiestas que se desarrollaban en su tierra en época vikinga. En este disco vamos a encontrar una composición más madura, donde encontraremos desde temas más orientados al Viking Death, como temas más festivos.

Intro épica con “Pi Tuoļim Krostym” donde suenan los cuernos y los sonidos de choque de espadas. Para dar a paso a “Stuojīs!”, un tema a medio tiempo donde el acordeón guía la melodía y las guitarras suenan atronadoras, con alterne de voces guturales y melodiosas. “Cīņis Gors” sigue las mimbres de su antecesora donde unos coros de fondo le da un toque épico y solemne en la canción, con varios cambios de ritmo en la canción. “Pārķiuņa Uomurs” se inicia con sonido de espadas, para dar a continuación a uno de los mejores temas del disco, batería contundente, varios cambios de ritmo, guitarras contundentes, buenos coros y acordeón presente durante todo el tema. “Dzeļža Ryuda” tema marcial que pasa sin pena ni gloria. “Svietņeica” es un tema donde le imprimen mayor ritmo y donde la canción tiene un momento orquestal donde la batería imprime un ritmo frenético, dando un punto atmosférico. “Uperiešona” es un tema donde el acordeón es el actor principal, volviendo a la épica con sonidos de flauta y medios tiempos. “Syt Pa Seyi” es un tema happy total recordándome totalmente a Korpliklaani. “Toļļs” sigue esa estela happy pero metiendo una batería muy rápida y potente, que con las voces guturales les queda un tema de los más cañeros del disco. “Karaveiri” volvemos a tema más folk con coros emulando cánticos regionales con cierta reminiscencia al sonido de los cuernos de batalla. “Ceļš Da Sātai “ es un tema Instrumental de guitarra acústica con el sonido del bosque de noche, deja por terminado el disco.

En mi opinión estamos ante un disco más que correcto, que aunque la elección del idioma nos impide desentrañar de que trata cada tema, es un disco muy recomendado para todos los fanáticos del pagan metal.

Varang Nord is a folk / pagan / viking metal band from Latvia who come to bring us their fourth album through Sliptrick Records called “Pärkunia Uomurs”, which will be released on February 23rd. And it is that this band since winning the Wacken Battles 2019, only progresses by uploading integers in each installment. The novelties that this album brings us is that it is initially sung in latgali (a dialect from the east of his country) and the content of this album is dedicated to the battles, sacrifices to their Gods and festivals that took place in their land in Viking times. . In this album we are going to find a more mature composition, where we will find from themes more oriented to Viking Death, as well as more festive themes.

Epic intro with “Pi Tuoļim Krostym” where horns sound and sword clash sounds. To give way to “Stuojīs!”, A mid-tempo song where the accordion guides the melody and the guitars sound thunderous, with alternating guttural and melodious voices. “Cīņis Gors” follows the wickers of its predecessor where some background choirs give an epic and solemn touch to the song, with several rhythm changes in the song. “Pārķiuņa Uomurs” begins with the sound of swords, to follow one of the best songs on the album, strong drums, several rhythm changes, strong guitars, good choirs and an accordion present throughout the song. “Dzeļža Ryuda” martial song that passes without pain or glory. “Sovietņeica” is a song where they give it a greater rhythm and where the song has an orchestral moment where the drums print a frenetic rhythm, giving an atmospheric point. “Uperiešona” is a song where the accordion is the main actor, returning to the epic with flute sounds and half times. “Syt Pa Seyi” is a total happy song totally reminding me of Korpliklaani. “Toļļs” follows that happy trail but putting in a very fast and powerful drums, which with the guttural voices are left with one of the most powerful songs on the album. “Karaveiri” we return to a more folk theme with choirs emulating regional songs with a certain reminiscence of the sound of the battle horns. “Ceļš Da Sātai” is an Instrumental acoustic guitar song with the sound of the forest at night, it ends the album.

In my opinion this is a more than correct album, that although the choice of language prevents us from unraveling what each song is about, it is a highly recommended album for all pagan metal fans.
