Reseña – Review: Deep Space Mask “Songs From The Dark Light”

Deep Space Mask es un proyecto liderado por Raymz (ex Fliinky Pie). Y es que este francés, a través de Planet K Records, nos trae su primer disco titulado “Songs From The Dark Light” donde toca todos los instrumentos, edita, produce y mezcla en su propio estudio; y que sale a la venta el 29 de Enero. Raymz se considera un gran fan de Toni Iommy, aspecto que se va a reflejar en el disco, pero sin olvidar sus orígenes Hard Rockeros. Hablando del disco en cuestión, estamos ante un disco eminentemente de Stoner Rock, con guiños Hard Rockeros en los coros. 

Desgranando el disco se inicia con el tema “Nosferatu”, tema pesado recordando a Black Sabbath con guitarras Stoner y voz radiofónica. El siguiente tema “All Hell’s Fire” es un tema más dinámico, guitarra más hard rockera y alternan voz más viva con la radiofónica, con unos teclados tétrico de fondo. El siguiente “Inside Me” volvemos a esas guitarras pesadas, aunque luego se le da más dinamismo a la canción, seguimos con la voz distorsionada. El siguiente tema “Sabbath”, hace honor al nombre con un buen punteo de guitarra. “Angel of Death” comienza con un solo de batería, canción dinámica, voz distorsionada y buenos coros. “Princess of the Dark” sigue la dinámica de su antecesora, realizando un cambio de ritmo en el solo de guitarra. “Final War” se inicia con guitarra distorsionada para dar pasada a esas guitarras Stoner, lo mejor el punteo de guitarra. En “Indians tenemos un inicio psicodelico, una canción de ritmo lento, acordes tenebrosos, e introduce un cántico indio en la canción.

Tengo que reconocer en primer lugar que tiene un gran mérito cuando alguien saca un disco donde lo ha hecho todo, pero a su vez es un problema porque no se enriquece de distintos puntos de vista. Además reconozco no ser un gran fan del Stoner Rock con lo que me encuentro con un disco aburrido, donde me desesperan las voces distorsionadas; eso no quita de que el disco esté exento de calidad.

Deep Space Mask is a project led by Raymz (ex Fliinky Pie). And it is that this Frenchman, through Planet K Records, brings us his first album entitled “Songs From The Dark Light” where he plays all the instruments, edits, produces and mixes in his own studio; and that goes on sale on January 29. Raymz considers himself a big fan of Toni Iommy, an aspect that will be reflected on the album, but without forgetting his Hard Rock origins. Speaking of the album in question, this is an eminently Stoner rock album, with hard Rockers winks in the choruses.

Shelling the album begins with the song “Nosferatu”, a heavy theme reminiscent of Black Sabbath with Stoner guitars and radio voice. The next song “All Hell’s Fire” is a more dynamic song, a harder rock guitar and a livelier voice alternates with the radio, with gloomy keyboards in the background. The next “Inside Me” we return to those heavy guitars, although later the song is given more dynamism, we continue with the distorted voice. The next song “Sabbath” lives up to the name with a good guitar pick. “Angel of Death” begins with a drum solo, dynamic song, distorted voice and good backing vocals. “Princess of the Dark” follows the dynamics of its predecessor, making a change of rhythm in the guitar solo. “Final War” begins with a distorted guitar to give way to those Stoner guitars, the best guitar picking. In “Indians we have a psychedelic beginning, a song with a slow rhythm, dark chords, and it introduces an Indian chant into the song.

I have to admit first of all that it has great merit when someone releases a record where they have done everything, but at the same time it is a problem because it is not enriched by different points of view. I also admit that I’m not a big Stoner Rock fan, so I find a boring album where distorted voices make me desperate; That does not mean that the disc is devoid of quality.
