Reseña – Review: Bloody Hammers “Songs of Unspeakable Terror”

Bloody Hammers es una banda procedente de Carolina del Norte (USA) y que está formada por Anders Manga (compositor multinstrumentista, voz) y Devallia (teclado, órgano, bajo) y que bajo el auspicio de Napalm Records nos traen su sexto trabajo de larga duración “Songs of Unspeakable Terror”. Algunos críticos la definen como una banda de Stoner Doom, pero ciertamente se mueven entre el rock gótico, doom, rock psicodelico y punk rock, con una estética muy del rock oscuro de los años 70 y 80, creando  semejanzas con bandas como Misfits, Ghost, Black Sabbath o Danzig.

Hablando concretamente de este disco los temas que lo componen tornan al horror punk y así comienza el primer tema “A Night to Dismember” que entra como un tiro, tema muy pegadizo, rápido y con Devallia haciendo los coros, para dar a continuación paso al tema “Hands of the Ripper” un tema algo más doom con buenas guitarras, para dar paso al siguiente tema “Wichtfinder General” en otro buen ejercicio de horror punk con una entrada de bajo espectacular y muy buena base rítmica. Este álbum mantiene la misma tónica, teniendo temas tan buenos como “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die” o la oscura “”Lucifer’s Light” canción que se desmarca directamente del disco recordándome a Ghost con una batería que mantiene un ritmo tétrico en la canción, o la directisima “I Spit On your Corpses”, o el tema “Not of This Earth” con buenos riffs nuevamente con Devallia a los coros. Por contrario hay temas como “The Ones Who Own the Dark”, “Walking Dead que suenan algo lineales, o el tema “We Are the Damned” que suena directamente a los Ramones.

Mi conclusión definitiva es que es un buen disco, si es verdad que por sus discos anteriores se espera un disco más doom, más oscuro. No es su mejor disco ya que han demostrado que lo saben hacer mejor, pero insisto que a mi personalmente me ha gustado mucho. Un saludo

Bloody Hammers is a band from North Carolina (USA) that is made up of Anders Manga (multi-instrumentalist composer, voice) and Devallia (keyboard, organ, bass) and that under the auspices of Napalm Records bring us their sixth long album duration “Songs of Unspeakable Terror”. Some critics define it as a Stoner Doom band, but they certainly move between gothic rock, doom, psychedelic rock and punk rock, with a very dark rock aesthetic of the 70s and 80s, creating similarities with bands like Misfits, Ghost , Black Sabbath or Danzig.

 Speaking specifically about this album, the songs that make it up turn to horror punk and that’s how the first song “A Night to Dismember” begins, which comes in like a shot, a very catchy song, fast and with Devallia doing the backing vocals, to then give way to song “Hands of the Ripper” a somewhat more Doom song with good guitars, to give way to the next song “Wichtfinder General” in another good exercise in punk horror with a spectacular bass entry and a very good rhythmic base. This album maintains the same tonic, having themes as good as “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die” or the dark “” Lucifer’s Light “song that stands out directly from the album reminding me of Ghost with a battery that maintains a gloomy rhythm in the song , or the very direct “I Spit On your Corpses”, or the song “Not of This Earth” with good riffs again with Devallia in the backing vocals. On the contrary, there are songs like “The Ones Who Own the Dark”, “Walking Dead that sound somewhat linear, or the song“ We Are the Damned ”that sounds directly to the Ramones. 

My final conclusion is that it is a good album, if it is true that for their previous albums a more Doom, darker album is expected. It is not their best album since they have shown that they know how to do it better, but I insist that I personally liked it a lot. Kind regards.
